Today I have been working on some new cupcake toppers. I like to have a good supply of various toppers, like flower, hearts, butterflies etc, and I do these myself by rolling out different coloured sugarpaste, punching out different shapes and letting them dry. I then store them in airtight containers for future use. I find it saves me time and I use these kind of things quite often.
Sometimes I embellish my cut outs first, like the butterlies in the picture that have little flowers in the corner of the wings and like the two layer flowers.
Today I have made some 2 layer flowers, butterflies and tiny 5 petal flowers in three shades of pink. I think I already have a project in mind for these, but you will have to wait and see.
Speak to you tomorrow.

Wedding Fayre at Lakeview Manor
It's my day off today so me, my husband and the children went for a meal with my Mom and Dad. It was really lovely, but meant that I haven't got any work done today. And I really should have done!
So I thought I would tell you about my first wedding fayre of this year. It is at the very beautiful Lakeview Manor in Honiton, Devon.
The fayre is on Sunday 21st March 2010, from 11am - 4pm and admission is free. Lakeview Manor has wonderful views, a beautiful lake (as the name suggests) and a permanent marquee, which makes it an ideal wedding venue.
As well as looking around the venue and beautiful surroundings, there will be a host of local suppliers (including myself obviously) and to date there are 29 exhibitors, so it should be a really good day.
This is the work I am meant to be doing at the moment, to prepare lots so I haven't got a mad rush of things to do at the last minute. I will HAVE TO start tomorrow on my roses or they will never be done. So much for a lazy Sunday.
Speak to you tomorrow.

New blog for Claire's Cakes

I tried to write a blog last year when I first started Claire's Cakes and I am sad to say I didn't commit to it (naughty me), but I feel that I have had so much inspiration, for my work and mostly for my spirit, that I needed to give it a proper go.
So here it goes, 26th February 2010, first post day!!!
I have started by posting a recent picture of the cake I made for my daughter, Faye's 9th birthday. It was a vanilla sponge left plain (my daughter doesn't like anything else!). The inspiration she gave me this year was from the drink bottle she takes to school!!! I know that sounds weird but she loves the colour of it and it has lots of flowers on it and lovely big butterflies.
I decided to make the butterflies into cookie lollipops that she could give to her friends as favours at her birthday party. I think they worked well, although there turned out to be quite a lot of cake left over, as Faye only had 4 friends over for a trip to the cinema and lunch afterwards. So we ate cake for dessert

And finally just a quick pic of the cut cake. I would have preferred it with some buttercream and jam sandwiched in there but she wouldn't let me. Oh well, it was still yummy.
Speak to you tomorrow,
Claire x
